Middle Air Chaps Installation Instructions |
Attention: Please read the instructions all the way through BEFORE beginning. It will save you a lot of time and frustration as some of the steps have to be done in exactly the right order. |
The only tool required to mount the Middle Air Chaps deflectors is the extended length 5 mm ball end Allen wrench which is supplied and a box end wrench or pliers (in your tool kit). |
| With the bike on the side stand and the fork facing straight ahead, using the Allen wrench supplied loosen the dome head hex bolts that hold the windshield to the support frame on the right side. Do not loosen both sides of the windshield at the same time or you will lose your height setting. | |
| The picture at the left shows the top end view of the left and right Middle deflectors | |
| Remove the top dome head hex bolt only, and position the right side Middle Air Chap deflector so the hole in the end of the Middle support bracket lines up with the upper bolt hole. Insert the bolt through the Middle support bracket hole and carefully thread the dome head hex bolt back into the windshield support frame. Do not fully tighten the bolt. Leave it loose so the Middle deflector can pivot up to its final position. | |
| Remove the lower dome head hex bolt from the windshield and pivot the Middle support bracket up until the hole in the windshield support frame lines up with the hole in the Middle bracket. You may have to put a little pressure on the bottom of the windshield to make sure the threaded hole in the windshield support frame lines up with the slot on the windshield bracket and the Middle support bracket. | |
Position the dome head hex bolt into position to be threaded into the windshield support frame with the ball end of the 5mm Allen wrench inserted in the hex receptacle of the bolt. It is very tight with limited space to move your fingers due to the closeness of the Middle deflector plate to the back of the windshield. Carefully rotate the Allen wrench to start the bolt into the threaded hole. DO NOT FORCE IT. It may take several tries to start the bolt threading properly. |
| Once the lower bolt is threaded into the windshield support frame, use the ball end Allen wrench to tighten the lower dome head hex bolt. You may have to use box end wrench or a pair of pliers to grip the short end of the Allen wrench to apply sufficient torque to tighten the bolt. | |
| Use the short end of the Allen wrench inserted into the upper dome head hex bolt to apply torque to it and tighten firmly. This completes the right side Middle Air Chap installation. Repeat the procedure for the left side Middle Air Chap deflector. | |
If you have installed the Lower Air Chap deflector set turn the fork all the way to lock position SLOWLY to test for interference on both the right and left side. If they touch at the extreme position refer to your instructions for the Lower Air Chap installation and make the suggested correction to their position to relieve the interference. |
